Image: Warren wants to reschedule Groves-Anderson rematch on June 30thBy William Mackay: Promoter Frank Warren says he’ll be looking to reschedule the previously scheduled rematch between Commonwealth super middleweight champion George Groves (14-0, 11 KO’s) and Kenny Anderson (15-1, 11 KO’s) on June 30th. That’s kind of interesting because Groves is fighting for the WBO super middleweight title on May 5th against champion Robert Stieglitz (41-2, 23 KO’s) in Germany.

Either way the fight turns out, Warren isn’t giving the 24-year-old Groves much time for him recover from the Stieglitz fight before facing the hard-hitting 29-year-old Anderson for a second time. It also makes you wonder whether he feels Groves can beat Stieglitz. Why talk about a rematch with Anderson when Groves is fighting Stieglitz? If Groves beats Stieglitz, it’s highly unlikely that the WBO will allow Groves to fight a second tier super middleweight like Anderson, who isn’t ranked in the top 15 by any of the sanctioning bodies. I guess the fight could be possible if the World Boxing Organization gives him permission, but fight Anderson if Groves is the WBO champ? Doesn’t make sense.

Frank said this at frankwarren.tv “He [Groves] was due to face Scotsman Kenny Anderson in a defense of his British title last month that I won the purse bids to stage, but he had to withdraw because of an injury. I’m looking to reschedule it for 30th of June.”

It seems like a waste of time if you ask me. Groves, if he wins the WBO title, should at least face a bottom 15 contender in his first title defense, not a 2nd tier fighter like Anderson. That would look really bad, wouldn’t it? I wouldn’t mind seeing Groves face someone like #15 WBO Renan St. Juste. He can really punch and would make it interesting, if his arm didn’t go out on him again like it did against Anthony Dirrell in his last fight.
