Image: Froch can't will himself to victory over Bute; he needs talentBy Scott Gilfoid: If you listen to Carl Froch speak he’ll have you believe that he’s going to beat IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute because he wants it more and is willing to do whatever it takes to get the win in his fight against Bute on May 26th at the Nottingham Arena, in Nottingham, UK. I wish it was that easy.

If all it took for a fighter to win as tremendous heart minus the talent then we’d have a ton of champions. However, to beat Bute and fighters like Andre Ward and the Dirrell brothers you need TALENT, and I don’t think Froch has anywhere close to enough of the precious ingredient to get the win.

Since Froch isn’t going to be able to tap any hidden talent in his body before May 26th, my suggestion is Froch sit down and study Ward and the Dirrell brothers’ fights as much as possible so he can learn to do some of the same things that they do in the ring. He’s got to fight like them in order to beat Bute. He’s not going to get anywhere fighting with his usual style because it won’t work against a fighter like Bute, and besides, Bute will have studied his backside off in learning everything that Froch does.

He’ll know Froch like the back of his hand and be able to capitalize on almost anything Froch does in the ring. That’s why Froch has got to be one step ahead of Bute by not being himself. He HAS to be Dirrel or Ward in this fight if he wants to beat Bute. He won’t beat him by being himself because he’s so predictable and easy to hit. For that matter, Froch can’t shy away from contact when the going gets tough. I saw some fear from Froch in his fights against Mikkel Kessler and Glen Johnson when he started to take punishment from them. Froch started backing off and looking like he was trying to save himself.
