Image: Adamek gets the chance to prove he can beat a good heavyweight against ChambersBy Sean McDaniel: Former two division world champion Tomasz Adamek’s time spent at the heavyweight level has seen him mostly matched against weaker, slower and older heavyweights that he pretty much could box circles around without worry of getting hit with anything. He got a world title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko last September and was badly exposed as being too small in losing by a 10th round TKO.

Adamek is now looking to build himself back up to another title shot, and will be facing former heavyweight title challenger Eddie Chambers (36-2, 18 KO’s) on June 16th, who also knows what it’s like to be the small guy in facing one of the Klitschkos in IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in March 2010. Chambers did a better job against Wladimir than Adamek did in his fight against Vitali. Chambers was at least able to land a few shots before Wladimir put the fight away by landing a big right hand in the 12th that knocked Chambers unconscious briefly.

Adamek is a good fighter when facing someone slow and limited. He can outbox a slow fighter all night long, but he’s only faced two good heavyweights in Chris Arreola and Vitali. Arreola was out of shape and he compounded his problems by breaking his left hand in the 2nd round, forcing him to slap with it the remainder of the fight and use mostly his right hand. Adamek was still staggered several times by Arreola in that fight.

Chambers, if he’s shape, he’s got the skills to give Adamek as much problems as Vitali did. Chambers can punch with big power, but what makes him so good is he’s not someone that Adamek will be able to move on and nor will he be someone that Adamek will have a speed advantage. The only advantage that Adamek will be in the weight department. Chambers has been coming in low in the 208 range for his last three fights. Adamek will likely weigh in the low 220s on June 16th and that will definitely help him.
