Image: Nishioka wants Donaire in 2012 and doesn't want to waitBy Chris Williams: WBC super bantamweight Emeritus champion Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KO’s) isn’t interested in waiting around for a 100 years before he gets a shot against the vulnerable new WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (28-1, 18 KO’s), according to examiner.com.

The 35-year-old Nishioka wants to fight Donaire soon or he’ll hang up his gloves and retire from boxing. Nishioka says he’s willing to wait until after Donaire takes on and defeats Cristian Mijares (44-6-2, 20 KO’s) in his next fight on July 14th. However, Nishioka doesn’t want to have to wait until after Donaire faces Jorge Arce before getting a fight against him. He wants to be the next guy that faces Donaire.

The chances of that happening are probably slim and none. Donaire proved himself to be a very average fighter in beating Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. by a 12 round decision last month at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. I can’t see Donaire’s promoter Bob Arum having him take on a slightly more dangerous fighter than Arce in putting him in with Nishioka in a fight that probably won’t make nearly as much money.

It’s about taking the safest fight first to get the money, and the little 5’4″ Arce is clearly the safer choice for Donaire than putting him in with Nishioka and watching him get jabbed to pieces all night long. Donaire will face Nishioka but probably after the Arce fight. But at least Nishioka will get the fight. One fighter who probably won’t ever get a fight against Donaire is WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, who might be considered too dangerous for Donaire. He’ll likely be ignored permanently unless he starts showing serious signs of decline.
