Image: Marquez to fight Pacquiao in November, says his promoterBy Chris Williams: Tough Mexican warrior Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6-1, 39 KO’s) has a really busy schedule planned for himself in 2012 with a fight against Sergiy Fedchenko (30-1, 13 KOs) on April 14th followed by a big money bout against Mercito Gesta on July 14th at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. And to top it all off, Marquez will be facing WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao in November, according to Marquez’s promoter Fernando Beltran.

That’s an excellent fight year if this is going to be the 38-year-old Marquez’s final year in the sport, which has been reported.

Beltran said this as quoted by examiner.com “Juan Manuel will fight Fedchenko in April, then on July 14th against Mercito Gesta at Cowboys stadium, and in November the fourth fight with Pacquiao.”

This is interesting if Marquez does get the fourth fight against Pacquiao. Obviously, the fight against Gesta is pretty much a throwaway bout where he’s facing one of Bob Arum’s fighters to give the guy a name. It sounds like a nice mismatch. Gesta is going life and death with 2nd tier opposition and now he’s going to get put in with Marquez. Great idea if you like mismatches. I would have liked to have seen Marquez fight a live body, someone that has talent that can give him a good tune-up for the final Pacquiao fight. It won’t be the final bout if Marquez beats Pacquiao, because you know that there would be a HUGE push for a rematch. In that case, we would likely be seeing Marquez and Pacquiao doing it one more time in a 5th fight, which would only be the last fight if Pacquiao ends up the winner. If Marquez beats Pacquiao again it would likely continue on until Pacquiao either gives up or he gets the win. I don’t care for the Fedchenko fight either. That’s a waste.
