(Photo: Alexander Kock) By Sean McDaniel: Kallie Sauerland, the promoter for super middleweight contender Arthur Abraham (33-3, 27 KO’s), seems to be looking past Abraham’s opponent Piotr Wilczewski (30-2, 10 KO’s) for this Saturday in Germany and sees Abraham being next in line to face the winner of the proposed May fight between WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz and challenger George Groves.

Sauerland said “If Arthur wins on Saturday night, he will be the highest ranked challenger in the WBO ratings and [will] face the winner of Stieglitz-Groves.”

That’s a tough fight for Abraham no matter who emerges as the winner of the Stieglitz vs. Groves fight, because both guys are excellent boxers and Abraham is not. They both likely will box Abraham’s ears off and make him look bad. But this fight won’t happen unless Abraham can get past Wilczewski on Saturday. Sauerland shouldn’t be looking ahead because Wilczewski has got good skills and could beat Abraham on Saturday night.

You couldn’t exactly call that an upset either, because Abraham has been looking mediocre in getting beaten in the Super Six tournament several times. He won his last fight, but he was matched against a short super middleweight that was out of his class. Wilczewski is a good fighter and Abraham is going to have to show more than he’s been showing to get a win over him.

Abraham has been given a gift by #1 WBO contender Mikkel Kessler moving up in weight to light heavyweight to fight Allan Green. Kessler was next in line to face the Stieglitz-Groves winner. Now that puts Abraham up there at the top, who rightly or wrongly, is ready to get another title shot despite having lost three out of his last five fights. Abraham’s fans think it’s okay that he’s ranked #2 by the WBO with all those loses, believing he’s still better than the fighters he’s ranked above: Andre Dirrell [who beat him], Groves, James DeGale, Kelly Pavlik, Adonis Stevenson and Edwin Rodriguez. I don’t think Abraham is better than all those guys and I think the WBO’s ranking for him is very, very generous given all those recent losses on his record. Dirrell already beat him and would beat him again, and Groves and Rodriguez would likely box circles around Abraham. Stevenson would likely beat Abraham at his own game by out-slugging him, as would Pavlik. I think Abraham is completely undeserving of his #2 ranking by the WBO.
