Image: Kell Brook's promoter targeting Maidana, Mosley, Alexander or Malignaggi for Brook's next fight in the summerBy William Mackay: Eddie Hearn, undefeated welterweight contender Kell Brook’s promoter, says he’s looking at trying to match hi against one of the following fighters this summer in the UK: Shane Mosley, Marcos Maidana, Devon Alexander, or Paulie Malignaggi. Hearn has already mentioned former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan as being the #1 fighter on the list that he’d like to see Brook face next in a dream pay-per-view event. However, Hearn is open-minded enough to realize that Khan will probably not show any interest in that fight for the time being.

Hearn told the telegraph.co.uk “Maybe Paulie Malignaggi, Marcos Maidana – that would be a beautiful fight for Kell, and he’ stop him in the middle rounds. Or Shane Mosley, Devon Alexander. Proper fights.”

That’s actually kind of funny Hearn talking about Brook being able to stop Maidana. I can see Brook stopping Malignaggi, that’s understandable. But no way does Brook stop the hard hitting Maidana. That would be a tough fight, but if there was going to be a knockout in it, Maidana wouldn’t be the one getting knocked out. Maidana may have lost his last fight against Devon Alexander using a punch and grab strategy, but he wasn’t stopped by him and I rate Alexander as being a harder puncher and faster fighter than Brook. Maidana would likely lose to Brook unless he could knock him out, but he wouldn’t get knocked out himself. I don’t think Maidana would take the fight quite frankly. He already said that the welterweight division isn’t for him after his loss to Alexander last month and it’s doubtful that Maidana will want to move back up in weight against a counter puncher like Brook fighting in front of what would likely be a huge home crowd in the UK. Malignaggi wouldn’t take the fight unless it took place in the United States, and that’s obviously not what Hearn has in mind. He wants the fight to be held in the UK where he can take advantage of Brook’s large fan base to make a lot of money by drawing a crowd of 10,000+ fans.

Mosley and Alexander would be interesting options for Brook if they’re agreeable to fighting in the UK. That’s a big IF because Alexander is a huge draw if his own in the U.S, and he mainly likes to fight at home in Saint Louis. Mosley might take the fight but not if he gets badly beaten in his May 5th fight against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez. That’s too quick of a turnaround for Mosley to be ready for a big fight against Brook in the summer.
