Kell Brook needs to fight someone good in his next fight
By Scott Gilfoid: If you’re like a lot of people you’re wondering when undefeated welterweight contender Kell Brook (27-0, 18 KO’s) will finally face someone with a pulse and isn’t on flat line. Brook has been matched way too softly for way too long in his career and it’s really sad to see. I mean, I know boxing fans give WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. a lot of grief for the soft matchmaking he’s had in his eight year pro career, but Brook is much, much worse in the soft matchmaking in my view.
At least Chavez Jr. was able to finally step it up and face a paper champion in Sebastian Zbik to pick up the WBC middleweight strap last year. And while I’m sickened by the opposition Chavez Jr. has faced since he picked up the belt and the size that he’s been coming into his fights, he at least is facing top 10 opposition. Brook is still facing fodder and his win over Matthew Hatton last weekend was more of the same.
I know Hatton is technically a top 10 fighter in the welterweight division with his ranking by the WBA #9 and IBF #10, but I see the guy as pure 2nd tier, not deserving of a top 15 and especially a top 10 ranking. That’s so, so sad.
I know Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn is saying that Brook is going to take a on a really big name for his next fight in the summer in Sheffield, but he also said that same thing before Brook’s fight against Hatton. I don’t consider Matthew Hatton a big name, but I guess my standards are little different than Brook’s promoter.
So who will be the big name that Hearn drags out for Brook?
Here are the guys I see Brook’s promoter picking from:
* Antonin Decarie
* Sebastian Lujan
* Said Ouali
* Kevin Bizier
Some big names, eh?
