Image: Impressive win over Hatton opens doors for BrookBy David Coleman: Kell Brook’s impressive victory over Matthew Hatton may prove to be the most important of his career so far, as he sets his sights on a world title tilt. The Sheffield man never looked troubled when dealing with the game Mancunian and this showed on the scorecards with all three judges scoring it as a landslide victory for the unbeaten fighter.

Brook’s slick performance has left fans, and even promoter Eddie Hearn, talking about an all English showdown with Amir Khan. Hearn, speaking to sky sports, spoke of the appeal a fight with Khan would have in Great Britain. He said: “Money talks. We’ve sold 10,000 for Kell Brook v Matthew Hatton. “I could sell 40,000 tickets for Kell Brook against Amir Khan. It’s a pay-per-view fight.”

Brook echoed these claims, vowing to “smash” Khan if they ever met. Despite this however, Brook doesn’t plan on waiting around for the Khan fight to happen, admitting he’s looking elsewhere. He said: “I want whoever I can get my hands on. “I’ll be watching Vyacheslav Senchenko v Paulie Malignaggi and Andre Berto v Victor Ortiz with great interest. “I want to be fighting at that top table now with elite fighters. I think I’ve proved I deserve to be there.”

His performances of late certainly indicate he’s world class and, if Brook fights the winner of Senchenko v Malignaggi and wins a world title, sooner or later Amir Khan’s hand will be forced. This fight, or the winner of the Berto v Ortiz rematch, would be huge in England and i’m sure Eddie Hearn will do his utmost to land such fights.

In truth, Kell will probably need a couple of tune up fights to keep active until any of these names become available but, one thing is for sure, a star was born in Sheffield on Saturday.
