Image: Brook sees risk in Hatton fight on SaturdayBy William Mackay: Few people see Kell Brook’s fight against Matthew Hatton (42-5-2, 16 KO’s) as a competitive fight this Saturday at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK. However, the eight-year pro Brook (26-0, 18 KO’s) sees it as a risky fight for him because it could ruin his chance for a world title fight if the long shot Hatton some how pulls off a win.

Brook told Sky Sports News “It’s a risk because we didn’t need to take this fight but I wanted it. It’s captured the public’s imagination, it’s been on the horizon for years and we’ve finally got it on.”

Brook seems to have things twisted around in a HUGE way. This fight has interest in the UK, but likely because of Hatton’s popular brother. He himself has accomplished little during his career, and you could say his claim to fame was getting completely dominated by 20-year-old Saul Alvarez last year in his failed attempt to win the vacant WBC junior middleweight title.

A Brook-Hatton fight hasn’t been a fight anyone has been taking about for years, at least as far as I can tell. I do know that boxing fans have been wondering when Brook will finally step it up some day and fight someone actually good and they’re still wondering. Hatton isn’t in the same league as guys like Andre Berto, Victor Ortiz, Mike Jones, Devon Alexander, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. If Brook sees this as his big step up fight filled with risk, then that’s sad because what will happen if he gets a hold of one of the many titles in the watered down welterweight division with the regular titles, Super titles and interim titles to pick from. Hatton isn’t a risk and is just more of the same type of fodder that Brook has been facing for eight long years in his Chavez Jr-esque career.
