Lee, 27, was previously pulled out of a high visibility card on March 17th on the undercard of Sergio Martinez vs. Matthew Macklin against Peter Quillin. But Lee reportedly felt the money involved wasn’t worth the risk, so he decided to pull out of the card.

If Lee, #2 WBA, #2 WBO, can get past the 31-year-old Camacho, then he’ll possible get a shot against WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on June 2nd. However, that’s a big if because middleweight contender Martin Murray has been mentioned as possibly the next opponent for the 25-year-old Chavez Jr, not the hard hitting Lee. It would be a good fight if Lee can get it but it’s highly unlikely.

It’s kind of odd that Lee should be looking to fight a welterweight like the 5’9″ Camacho, because he fights two divisions below Lee. But it looks like Lee’s people aren’t taking any chances that he might get knocked out again before he gets his payday fight against Chavez Jr. – if he gets it. Fighting a guy divisions below him will almost guarantee that Lee comes out on top in this fight, but I thought he was better than this. It’s very rare for a top level opponent like Lee to go combing for opponents two divisions below his own weight class. It’s just not very sporting, especially when you look at the fact that Camacho has lost three out of his last four fights and hasn’t fought in TWO YEARS since losing by a 7th round TKO to Shamone Alvarez in March 2010. So, Lee is getting a rusty smaller guy in Camacho. I guess we should be happy he’s not picking out a 140 pounder.
