Image: Abraham - Wilczewski next SaturdayBy Dan Ambrose: Former IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham tries to keep his hope alive for a title shot against the WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz by taking on Piotr Wilczewski on Saturday night at the Sparkhassen Arena, Kiel, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany.

Abraham has been atrocious at super middleweight, losing three of six fights at that weight and only beating one quality fighter of those three wins against the fragile chinned Jermain Taylor. Abraham must feel he can’t make 160 again, because why else would he stick it out in a division where it’s been proven that he doesn’t have enough size and talent to compete.

Wilczewski, 33, has the ability to beat Abraham, but I’m not so certain he’s got the ability to beat him well enough for the judges to give him the decision. For Wilczewski to go into Abraham’s adopted country of Germany to try and get a decision, it’s going to take something extra special from him to impress the judges. I can’t see him getting the win unless he puts Abraham down two of three times in the fight and really dominates him to the point where it’s too obvious.

Abraham will likely have to move down to middleweight eventually after he suffers two or three more losses. He’ll be okay while he’s still being matched against softer opposition like his last opponent, but once he’s put in tough again he’ll lose.

To be Wilczewski, Abraham is going to have to put constant pressure on him and throw a lot more punches than he’s been throwing in his last 10 fights. Abraham is so predictable now. He does nothing for the first two and half minutes of every round and then pours it on in the last 30 seconds so that he can try and steal the round while at the same time getting a rest due the round ending.

On the undercard EBU light heavyweight champion Eduard Gutknecht will be defending his title against challenger Tony Averlant.
