Will Khan fight dirty against Peterson in the rematch?

Image: Will Khan fight dirty against Peterson in the rematch?By Scott Gilfoid: Well, after all his complaining and pointing fingers to try and make excuses for his loss to Lamont Peterson last December, former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan has got his wish and will be fighting Peterson in a rematch on May 19th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Golden Boy Promotions, Khan’s promoters, wanted the fight to take place in Las Vegas in what consider to be a neutral venue. It may be neutral but what really counts in this fight is who the referee and judges will be. That’s what makes something neutral, not the actual venue.

I’d be surprised if a referee is installed that will do anything to stop Khan from his fouling. I really am hoping that a good referee is found like the last one Joe Cooper, because if the IBF or WBA select a hands off referee that doesn’t care much about policing the fouling in the fight, then Khan could run roughshod over Peterson on May 19th with Khan’s fouling left unchecked.

It’s a huge advantage that Khan has when he’s able to shove, pull down on his opponents’ head, hold and hit and put them in headlocks. I don’t remember ever seeing another fighter use as many different fouling techniques than Khan did in his last fight against Peterson. Usually, fighters have one or two that they like to use, such as hitting low and throwing rabbit punches.

However, Khan seemed to mix his fouls up quite nicely with the shoving, pulling down on the head and putting in Peterson in headlocks. Sadly, the referee only took points away for Khan for the shoving on two occasions. I thought Khan should have lost at least 10 points and been disqualified in the fight against Peterson, and I’m not the only that thinks this. Floyd Mayweather Jr. also expressed the same thoughts after seeing Khan’s fouling in the Peterson fight. Mayweather said he thought Khan should have been disqualified and he also thought Khan ran too much.
