Unfortunately, Mosley has stuck around the game a little too long and will be little more than fodder for WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KO’s) to beat and look good again on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It’s too bad that Golden Boy Promotions, the promoters for Alvarez, couldn’t find some younger talent to match against Alvarez instead of dragging Mosley out to feed him, because this isn’t going to be a pretty fight. Mosley doesn’t have the power to handle Alvarez, and of his usual tricks, such as punching and grabbing, won’t work in this fight because Alvarez fights remarkably well on the inside and he’ll continue to work when Mosley tries to shut him down.

It’s too bad that with boxing you need to pit a young fighter like Alvarez against an old fading fighter in order for boxing fans to recognize that the fighter has talent because it really doesn’t prove anything when you throw a shot fighter like Mosley in with a young guy. Mosley is too far gone for casual boxing fans to get a good gauge of how much talent Alvarez has going for him.

Alvarez needs a younger fighter at the top of his game for fans to know how good Alvarez is, not someone that arguably should have retired three years ago. Mosley would have done well to wrap up his career following his win over Antonio Margarito in 2009. Mosley obviously needed the money to pad his retirement, so we saw him come back for a loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., a questionable draw against Sergio Mora and then a one-sided loss to Manny Pacquiao.
