Image: Vitali will take the fight out of Chisora by the 4th; Stephen Smith fighting on the undercardBy Scott Gilfoid: Dereck Chisora (15-2, 9 KO’s) is about as overmatched as a fighter can be against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (43-2, 40 KO’s) in their fight next month on February 18th. A mismatch like this is one of things where you start to point fingers afterwards at the sanctioning bodies for approving it in the first place.

Chisora has never beaten 1st tier fighter before and is backing his way into this fight behind a loss to Robert Helenius last December. Great way to get a title shot, eh? Look good in losing to a guy with a busted up right hand a torn up right shoulder and you’re there. Let’s be real about this: Chisora would have been thrown around the ring like a rag doll had Helenius not been so badly injured before that fight. He had an injured fighter in the ring with him and STILL couldn’t beat him. That’s what we got here, a guy who couldn’t even beat a one-armed fighter.

At any rate, this is a mismatch and I suspect Vitali will impose his will on Chisora immediately and have him pretty much no longer even trying after the 4th round. You know what I’m talking about. Chisora will be there in physical form but will his backside handed to him in a terrible beating that will make the beating that Vitali gave to Shannon Briggs look like child’s play.

This fights going to be in Germany, so there probably be any quick stoppages like we often see in the UK when one of the Brits are really getting it. Chisora will have to either take a knee and quit or quit on his stool to get out of this, unless his trainer tosses in the white towel or surrender first.

Stephen Smith fighting on Vitali-Chisora undercard

Former British and Commonwealth featherweight champion Stephen Smith (12-1, 6 KO’s) will be fighting a scheduled eight round fight against a still to be determined opponent on the undercard of the Vitali Klitschko vs. Dereck Chisora card at the Olyphiahalle in Munich, Germany. Smith, 26, hasn’t fought since he was blasted out by Lee Selby last September in a completely one-sided fight. Smith hasn’t done anything since then and is hoping to get a rematch against Selby to try and avenge his defeat. I personally think that’s a really bad idea. Selby can actually fight a little and he’s got Smith’s number. I don’t care how many times Smith fights him, he’ll knock Smith out every time. Selby looked good in his last fight, stopping John Simpson in the 5th round and make it look easy last December. Does Smith really want to fight a guy that? He needs to back off and look for softer opposition more befitting his talent level.
