This is supposed to be a stay busy tune-up fight for 27-year-old Mitchell to get him ready for a possible bout against the recently appointed WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns after that.

I think the choice of Lora, 27, is going to turn around and bite Mitchell on the backside. Lora can punch. He’s excellent right hand power and a nifty left hook to go along with it. Granted, he’s badly flawed as you can get, but he’s the equalizer to make up for what he lacks in boxing skills, and he’s also got the perfect opponent in the weak-chinned Mitchell for him to pull off an upset.

Mitchell hasn’t exactly been one of the busiest of fighters in the last two years. He’s only once since getting destroyed by Michael Katsidis in May 2010 and that was when he came back last July to stop the painfully slow John Murray by an 8th round TKO.

Now Mitchell has been out of boxing for the past six months and he’s going to be stepping in the ring with a big puncher in Lora on February 10th. I think it’s going to go really badly for Mitchell. Lora, 5’7”, is a huge puncher with excellent athletic skills. He may have a few losses his record but he’s got better physical tools than Mitchell has going for him.

There is some definite talent with Lora and it’s scary to imagine what a trainer like Emanuel Steward or Floyd Mayweather Sr. would have been able to do with that guy. It doesn’t matter a bit that he sometimes has problems getting out-boxed by certain fighters. I don’t think Mitchell will be able to stand up to his big right hands and left hooks. In order to beat Lora, you have to take some monstrous shots and Mitchell just doesn’t have the chin to hold up under that kind of pounding. I think Mitchell’s promoter really blew it with this one.

It’s not too late for him to pull out of the fight with some kind of an excuse. Mitchell needs to come up with some kind of ailment to keep him facing this guy because he’s going to get knocked out.
