Anderson, 29, had Groves badly hurt in a fight with hi two years ago but lost by a 6th round TKO after having Groves on the floor in the 3rd round. Anderson’s power had Groves running around the ring using feints all night to try and keep from getting hit so much. However, Anderson paid zero attention to Groves David Haye-like feints, and focused on watching the torso area of Groves to guess where he was going.

This enabled Anderson to get the better of Groves until getting hurt and stopped in the 6th. Anderson had been trying to get a rematch ever since but has had no luck in getting Groves to get back in the ring with him. Since there fight in 2010, Anderson has won his last three fights, all by stoppage against largely weak opposition. For his part, Groves, 23, also his last three fights, beating James DeGale by a controversial 12 round majority decision, stopping Paul Smith in the 2nd round and beating little known Daniel Adotley Allotey by a 4th round TKO.

Groves is expected to be moving beyond the domestic level fights in the near future, so this may be the last chance that Anderson has to fight Groves again unless he himself can improve his game enough to start taking on world class opposition.

It’s unknown when the Groves-Anderson rematch will take place but you would have to imagine that it will happen in the not too distant future because Groves hasn’t fought since last November and it would be foolish to keep him out of the ring for more than four months at this early point in his career.

Groves will have to use a lot of movement against Anderson like last time if he wants to win because Groves simply doesn’t have the kind of power to stand in front of Anderson and beat him in a toe-to-toe battle. Anderson is just a lot stronger than Groves and has heavy hands.
