One second the Brits were bragging that they were taking over boxing and the next thing you know every last one of their big stars had been whipped and the Brits were crying in their tea over it. December has been a bad, bad month for British fighters I must say.

It started with John Murray, who was beaten badly and taken out in the 11th round by Brandon Rios on December 3rd. And then last weekend, the fighter that was supposedly the best fighter in the UK, IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan, mentally crumbled and was beaten by American Lamont Peterson by a 12 round decision. Then heavyweight Dereck Chisora gave it try against Robert Helenius but lacked the power to defeat a fighter with only one good arm. Chisora lost and then cried loud and hard about it. He deserved to lose.

Three down and only one to go. The last remaining big British star is WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch, who takes on future pound for pound #1 star from America WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward this weekend in the Super Six tournament finals bout in New Jersey. I almost hate to see Froch get destroyed. It’s like I hate when it’s the last of a dying breed, and I kind of feel pity for Froch. It’s like when you see some species about to become extinct and you feel kind of bad. But there’s nothing you can really do about it.

Froch is one of those throwback fighters with a 1950s fighting style trying to compete against a 21st century talent in Ward. When you have a clash of fighters with style from different eras, of course the more advanced style is going to win out. Ward is going to whip Froch black and blue on Saturday. And that’ll be it. All the top Brit fighters will have been beaten in December, and that’ll be that.

Khan is has been exposed and is jabbering six bits to a dozen trying to convince boxing fans what they saw wasn’t what they thought they saw. There’s no point in mentioning John Murray. He just needs to drop down to the Euro level and be happy he’s still in one piece.
