Golota, who never won a major world title despite being blessed with a lot of talent, hasn’t fought since losing by a 5th round TKO to Tomasz Adamek in October 2009. Golota also lost his fight before that when he was stopped in the 1st round after injuring his left elbow in a fight against Ray Austin in November 2008.

As you can tell, Golota hasn’t exactly been the busiest heavyweight you’ll ever see.

It’s hard to tell what Golota can accomplish by coming back at 43. He looked really slow in the Adamek fight, and it’s doubtful he’ll be any quicker with two years off and being older. That last time Golota looked really good is when he dominated Mike Mollo by a 12 round unanimous decision in January 2008.

Golota does well against guys that aren’t in his class, but it will likely be a different story if he gets matched up against really good heavyweight in his comeback. I can imagine that Golota can still punch after all these years, but it won’t matter if he doesn’t have the hand speed or the work rate to beat some of the better heavyweights.

It goes without saying that Golota is going to have to be carefully matched if he wants to win enough fights for him to get a title shot, if that’s what his goal is.
