Golota considering a comeback

By Dan Ambrose: 43-year-old former heavyweight contender Andrew Golota (41-8-1, 33 KO’s) is considering making a comeback after two years out of boxing. According to the latest news, Golota is in good shape and is working out. He wants to get in a few tune-up bouts, but no word what his main goal is. He might be looking to get a title shot against one of the Klitschkos.

However, it’s going to be difficult for Golota to get a crack at one of the Klitschko brothers unless Golota beats a live body. He can’t get a title shot based on fights over 3rd tier opposition. It’s got to be at least one live body like Chris Arreola.

That’s how Tomasz Adamek got his title shot against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. Adamek beat a bunch of 2nd tier heavyweights and then got a win over a fat Arreola, and presto, Adamek now has a title shot. If Adamek can do it with the empty wins that he’s accumulated at heavyweight than I can see Golota doing the same. Put him in with all the guys that Adamek fought at heavyweight and then Golota will be in the perfect position for a title shot.

Golota came close to capturing a world title in his fight against WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz in November 2004. Golota lost the fight by a close 12 round decision, but I had winning that fight. I also had Golota beating IBF heavyweight champion Chris Byrd in his fight just before the Ruiz fight. Talk about your bad luck. Golota was bitten twice by the bad luck bug in the same year.
