Image: Pacquiao should veto any participation in 24/7 episodes until the focus is more on himBy Jason Kim: Another writer brought up a good point about the Pacquiao-Marquez 24/7 episode 1 having a lot of video footage of periphery players like Alex Ariza [Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach] and trainer Freddie Roach, as well as Juan Manuel Marquez’s trainer Nacho Beristain.

If I’m Pacquiao, I’d be seething about this. I can count on one hand all the footage of Pacquiao doing any real talking and I can count over and over again all the times I saw Ariza, Roach and Beristain talking. This 24/7 series is supposed to something sells the Pacquiao-Marquez fight, while at the same time continuing in building Pacquiao as a big pay per view star. Why pray tell is HBO wasting valuable air time with Ariza and Roach when Pacquiao is the guy that boxing fans are tuning into see talking and in action? I think that’s so wrong.

Like I said, if I’m Pacquiao I’d be livid about this and would veto any further participation in the 24/7 series unless they have the camera on meet the entire time. I’d want the camera to follow me – and Marquez – everywhere, even to the bathroom. But seriously, I wouldn’t want my trainer and strength trainer to be the ones that being turned into stars at my expense. Pacquiao is the guy here, right?

Someone surmised that Roach and Ariza are going so much air time because it’s hard to understand what Pacquiao is saying and because Marquez isn’t a good English speaker either. But who cares if they don’t the greatest, the 24/7 series should be about them and only them. Pacquiao needs to ask to review the series before goes on the air and ask for cutting of excess non-Pacquiao footage.

The main things that stuck out in my mind from watching the first episode of Pacquiao-Marquez 24/7 was all the interview footage of Ariza, Roach and Beristain. That’s not what the series has been put together for, and besides, it’s incredibly boring for me to watch Roach, Ariza and Beristain talk.
