Image: Maidana: Khan has cherry-picked another opponent [Peterson]By Sean McDaniel: WBA light welterweight champion Marcos Maidana believes that IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan has “cherry-picked” another opponent in Lamont Peterson for Khan’s next fight on December 10th.

In an interview at examiner.com, Maidana said “No disrespect to Peterson but Queen Khan has cherry-picked another rival as expected.”

Maidana could be referring to Peterson’s lack of big punching power and his uneven performances against Timothy Bradly, who easily beat Peterson by a 12 round decision in 2009, and then Victor Ortiz, who Peterson fought to a controversial 10 round draw with last year.

Peterson was knocked down twice in that fight and really struggled every time that Ortiz had the presence of mind to take the fight to Peterson. Ortiz was much too strong when he was on the attack mode. However, he backed off during many of the second half rounds and let Peterson win rounds by default.

Maidana is hoping that Khan will give him a rematch after Khan defeated Maidana by a 12 round decision last year in December in a fight of the year. However, Khan has no interest in a rematch with Maidana, and Khan’s management don’t want the fight either.

They want to limit how many hard fights Khan is in, and his fight with Maidana was a very hard fight with Khan taking a lot of big shots and ending up bruised and battered by the end of the fight in the 12th round. It’s easier to match Khan against light hitters than it is for them to put Khan in with big punchers that could potentially cause an upset.
