Apparently “Dr. Ironfist” is taking former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek (44-1, 28 KO’s) very seriously. Klitschko weighed in today at 242.9 pounds, the lightest he has come in for any fight since he came back from injuries to dethrone WBC champion Sam Peter in 2008.

Vitali obviously trained down to the unusually low weight for him so that he would be better able to handle the younger, faster Adamek. Tomasz, who showed no fear of Klitschko at the weigh in tipped the scales at 216.1 pounds. Adamek has said all along while training for Klitschko that his speed would neutralize Vitali’s power. One of Tomasz’s quotes in training is “Speed equals power!”

Although Klitschko turned 40 years old on July 19, his trainer and sparring partners insist that he appears to be improving and that age will not be a factor against Tomasz. This will be Vitali’s 8th fight since his dominating win over Peter.

Vitali who has the highest KO percentage of any heavyweight champion in boxing history, evidently has his eye on his place in boxing history. He was quoted on German TV RTL saying “I will give my best to improve my knockout rate. The only thing I can promise is that there will be no questions after the fight about who won the battle.”

Viali has not given any clear cut indication of how long he wishes to remain active but in a number of interviews he has stated that he feels like a 25 year old. He also indicated that he would be very interested in fighting David Haye, who his brother Wladmir dominated in July. “Dr. Ironfist” has not forgotten the many barbs and insults Haye hurled at both of the Klitschko brothers in the lead up to his showdown with Vladimir.

In assessing Tomasz Adamek, Vitali places him in 3rd place, right behind Vladimir and himself. He has made it clear that he thinks he is a good fighter and not one that got where he is with his mouth. Klitschko appears to genuinely like Tomasz but says all that must go out the window when they step into the ring in Wroclaw, Poland on Saturday night.
