Khan: Prescott & McCloskey have to beat all the guys I recently defeated before I’ll fight them again

Image: Khan: Prescott & McCloskey have to beat all the guys I recently defeated before I'll fight them againBy Scott Gilfoid: I got a big laugh out of Amir Khan’s latest excuse for not fighting a rematch with Breidis Prescott, who knocked Khan out easily in one round a few years ago. Khan is now saying that Prescott has to beat all the fighters that Khan defeated in the past three years before he’ll fight him again. Khan includes McCloskey with the same conditions.

Speaking with Mirror Sport, Khan said “Both Prescott and McCloskey are making lots of rematch noises [about wanting a rematch with Khan]. However, it’s a huge backwards step for me. They need to beat all the people I have fought recently for them to get to the world title level, the likes of [Marcos] Maidana, [Zab] Judah, [Paulie] Malignaggi, [Marco Antonio] Barrera, before they can fight me again. If they beat the guys I’ve beaten and claim a world title first then they would be in the mix for a rematch.”

What a joke. I don’t blame Khan for not wanting to fight McCloskey, because he was nothing but a soft fodder opponent that Khan picked out of the bunch to get a safe fight after he took a major beating against Maidana. But Prescott will be deserving of a fight against Khan after he whips McCloskey on Saturday night and beats Maidana. That knocks off two of the guys from Khan’s list, but to make Prescott go out and destroy a totally shot Barrera, a weak-punching Malignaggi and a totally shot Judah is a sad joke. First of all, Barrera, Malignaggi and Judah would never fight a slugger like Prescott in a million years. I don’t even think Barrera is even fighting anymore as far as I can tell.

I think his thing is promoting now, not fighting. How in the heck if Prescott going to jump through that hoop in order to satisfy Khan’s whims? He can’t, and even if Prescott did destroy a shot Barrera and Judah, Khan would likely still not fight him. And Khan didn’t really even beat Barrera. The fight was stopped after the 5th round because Khan brained Barrera with his head early in the fight and opened up a huge gash on Barrera’s forehead, which he had to fight with until the bout went just long enough for it to go to a decision. It was then stopped and Khan got a technical decision. That’s not really beating someone when it’s a short fight and the guy is bleeding like stuck pig the whole time.

Khan needs to remove Barrera, Malignaggi and Judah from that list, because Prescott can never satisfy those requirements to get a fight with Khan. You know things like this really make Khan look like a ducker to me. He just doesn’t seem to want to get back in the ring with Prescott to try and avenge his loss. It’s weird because in the real world, it should be Khan that is chasing Prescott instead of the other way around.
