Froch: Ward might be worried about using his head now because of his cut

Image: Froch: Ward might be worried about using his head now because of his cutBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch is convinced that WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward uses his head at times intentionally in his fights instead of accidentally banging heads with his opponents while coming forward to land his big shots.

Froch thinks that Ward, who recently cut over his right eyebrow during a sparring session, will be reluctant to lead with his head now after sustaining a bad cut.

Froch said this to eastsideboxing.com’s On the Ropes Boxing Radio: “With the cut above his eyebrow, Wards probably going to be a little bit paranoid about using his head now, because it might open that cut or open up a new cut…If the official doesn’t sort it out, I will.”

There it is, folks. Froch dropping a big hint that he’ll retaliate in some way if Ward accidentally heat butts him. Looks like Froch is shooting a cannon across the bow with that comment. You can expect Froch to do something wild if the referee doesn’t act on every accidental bump from Ward. I just hope Froch doesn’t get himself disqualified for losing control of his senses. You got to take the pain sometimes. Things like headbutts, elbows and rabbit punches happen in the sport. Froch needs to realize that and not try and take the rules into his own hands. I just hope Froch doesn’t take the easy way out by fouling when things are looking bleak for him. Fighters can use any excuse to get themselves fouled when things are looking bad for them. Please, Froch, don’t lose control if you start getting schooled!

Ward doesn’t intentionally headbutt anyone. The only fight he ever headbutted anyone, as far as I can see, was his fight against Mikkel Kessler, and that happened because Kessler was coming forwards in a low position all night long at the same time Ward was moving in to land shots. It was more of a situation where Kessler contributed to his own headbutts by deciding to move at Ward at the same he was coming in with right hands. That never happens in Ward’s fights, and he’s gotten a bad rap because of it.

Froch said “If I would have been caught in the same position as what he was [if Froch had but cut like Ward] then I would have gone through with it. I know for a fact I would have gone through with it.”

I bet. Froch would take a fight a month after sustaining a bad cut? I kind of doubt. But then again, it would give Froch a great excuse for when he got beat if the cut were to open, which it surely would if he tried to come back so quickly after getting cut.It would be perfect! Froch could blame the loss on the cut.
