Image: Adamek: Size is not important against VitaliBy Dan Ambrose: Heavyweight challenger Tomasz Adamek (44-1, 28 KO’s) thinks that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko’s much superior size won’t be a factor in their title fight on September 10th in Poland. Adamek, who’s been weighing in around the mid-215 area in his six fights at heavyweight against mostly old-aged fighters, thinks his heart will allow him to prevail against the hulking 6’7″ 250 pound Vitali.

If it were only that easy. Adamek struggled against a mediocre and old 38-year-old Michael Grant last year in August. After that fight, Adamek, believe it or not, downgraded his opposition even further than he already had been, by taking on Vinny Maddalone and then journeyman Kevin McBride.

Adamek couldn’t do anything against either of them and had to stick to his usual hit and run style to win decisions. Now Adamek wants boxing fans to believe he has the ability to knockout a fighter that’s leagues better than those guys.

It makes me feel that I’m being tricked into seeing the fight thinking that Adamek has a chance when my brain tells me he has zero chance. Am I to believe my eyes or what Adamek is telling me? I think I’ll go with my eyes. Adamek has looked horrible at heavyweight and his opposition has been dreadful to the say least.

Here’s Adamek’s comment about size: “Size is not so important in the ring. Heart is important.”

Sorry, but size is important. That’s why you have the Klitschkos dominating without getting hit that much. It’s because of their size. If they were small like Adamek, don’t you think they would be getting pounded? I do. Adamek is going to get destroyed on September 10th and no matter what kind of pep talk he gives himself is going to change that reality.
