Klitschko has decided to go in another direction, although what direction that is unclear. Wladimir and his management team were contemplating a fight against the unbeaten 6’7″ Wach after his one-punch knockout over the 38-year-old, nearly 300 pound Kevin McBride recently.

What made Wladimir change his mind about facing Wach isn’t known right now. However, on paper, a fight between Wach and Wladimir would have likely been an epic mismatch, as Wach’s fight against McBride was considered a step up for him. He needs more time to get used to fighting better heavyweights and it would been a huge mismatch if he had been put in with Wladimir at this point in his career.

Wach needs to be cutting his teeth on other fringe contenders so he can learn some things and slowly get adjusted to fighting B level fighters instead of the usual C level guys he’s been facing. Going from C to A would have been impossible for Wach. He would have been annihilated in an embarrassing fashion.

Boxing fans would have still watched a Wach-Klitschko fight, but it would have made Wladimir not look good because of the one-sided nature of the fight. He needs fighters that can at least be slightly competitive with him, especially after his recent one-sided 12 round decision win over an inept David Haye. That fight was an embarrassment to boxing.

Wladimir has talked about wanting to take on American Chris Arreola in the United States. However, with Arreola looking very poor in his last couple of fights, it’s not a promising fight for Wladimir if he’s looking for a competitive opponent.
