This will be the 28-year-old Burns’ fourth title defense of his WBO strap and his first real test after taking three soft opponents in his first three title defenses. I was beginning to think that Burns would vacate his WBO belt rather than face a live body and risk getting beaten up. Thankfully, Burns is going to take on Broner so we can at least get one good title defense.

However, the fight still isn’t made yet and there’s plenty of time for things to go wrong. I suppose Burns will get a hit from the increased media attention just by being mentioned in the same breath as the talented Broner. It’s one of those things where Burns get a lot of attention even if he doesn’t take the fight. Some fighters do this, and I hope Burns doesn’t. He’s got to fight Broner or later, as he’s the No.1 ranked WBO contender right now, and won’t be denied.

Broner is only 22, and has already beaten Daniel Ponce De Leon and Jason Litzau. In his last fight, he took out Litzau in a 1st round knockout. Broner’s talent has been mentioned to over and over again to be in the same class as Floyd Mayweather Jr., and I would have to agree with that. Broner is going to be something special. He’s got amazing hand speed and uncanny boxing ability. Broner is the complete package, and could be a great one by the time he’s through.

Burns, I hate to say, is a speed bump for Broner. He’s going to clown Burns, batter, and likely take him out. It’s going to be great because Broner will get the chance to show the world the talent he’s got by beating a champion on HBO, and likely on Sky Sports as well. I just hope Burns takes the fight and doesn’t bail.
