Image: Groves vs. Anderson II a possibility for October 15th on Cleverly-Bellew undercardBy Sean McDaniel: A rematch between British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion George Groves (13-0, 10 KO’s) and Kenny Anderson (13-1, 9 KO’s) is possibility for the October 15th undercard on the Nathan Cleverly vs. Tony Bellew fight at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

Frank Warren, the promoter for that event, recently signed the 23-year-old Groves to a three-year promotional contract and is looking to get him some visibility one of his major cards. The October 15th card could be a huge one, as James DeGale vs. Piotr Wilcewski for the EBU super middleweight crown is also a possibility for the undercard. This is a great fight. But with the addition of Groves-Anderson the card is now looking a lot more interesting.

Anderson is fighting tonight against Lee Duncan at the Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland. Anderson, 28, has to win this fight to keep in the running for the Groves rematch.

Groves hasn’t fought since defeating DeGale by a 12 round decision in May. It was thought that Groves would move onto bigger things but instead he’s sat idle while DeGale, the loser, is scheduled to take on a bigger fight for the European Boxing Union title. A fight against Anderson is more of a backwards move for Groves and pales compared to DeGale’s fight for the EBU crown against Wilcewski. Hopefully, once Groves beats Anderson again he can move forward to guys that he hasn’t beaten before and are at least world class fringe contenders. It would be a pity to see Groves put in with lesser guys instead of better fighters.
