Froch-Ward: Will Carl mentally crumble on October 29th?

By Scott Gilfoid: In an interview with Sky Sports on Tuesday, World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KO’s) looked nervous as he spoke about wanting to knock his opponent WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO’s) in the later rounds of the finals of the Super Six tournament on October 29th.

Froch looked too nervous to me, like someone that was ready to jump out of his pants. I’ve seen it before from Froch in his loss to Mikkel Kessler last year, that 1000 year stare from Froch before going out and fighting passively for long stretches of the fight. Froch basically gave the fight away to Kessler.

I see the same thing happening here with the Ward fight, only it won’t even be slightly competitive like the Kessler-Froch fight was last year. Froch tends to get too emotional for his fights and I think he’s going to end up working himself to a point of exhaustion as he tries to get in as many exercises as he can to get ready for Ward. You know the type.

Froch is probably the kind of guy that tries to do double the amount of training because he feels it will help win. It won’t. Froch will go into the fight, likely worn out from excessive training, and get dominated from start to finish in this fight.

Once Froch tastes some of Ward’s fast counter shots early on, Froch will think twice about throwing his own punches, because each time he throws something, Ward will be all over him with hard combinations. This will be the start of the breakdown in Froch. He won’t want to get countered and will slowly start to crumble little by little with each shot from Ward.

What some boxing fans thought would be a competitive fight will turn into a full scale route with Ward literally raking a frozen Froch with shots and making it look easy. I don’t think Ward will get a knockout, because he’s not a huge puncher. But I do think he’s going to make Froch look like a novice in there in what will be Ward’s easiest win of the Super Six.
