Wladimir undecided about giving Haye a rematch

By Sean McDaniel: There’s little point in IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko giving former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye a rematch off of the British fighters poor performance against Wladimir in a loss on July 2nd. Wladimir is ambivalent about it, as if it doesn’t matter if it happens or not.

Haye isn’t helping himself by now showing strong interest in wanting to redeem himself and also by not being open about him needing to get at least two good wins under his belt before he should even think about campaigning for a rematch. Haye doesn’t want any part of fighting a couple of strong contenders in the heavyweight division.

Speaking with the BBC, Wladimir said “Will I concede a rematch? Maybe yes, maybe no. I have some time to think about it but there are good names such as Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury, new fighters who haven’t lost and have all their ambitions. I believe David Haye got his 15 minutes of fame in the last two years on the cost of the Klitschko brothers.”

Haye isn’t very ambitious anymore when it comes to his boxing career. Haye is talking about wanting to retire in October, and that’s not exactly interesting for fans who are looking for a star that will be sticking around the sport. Haye has been trying to lure Wladimir into a rematch by saying how much money he stands to gain.

Wladimir sees the same outcome as the first fight with Haye losing bad if they do decide on a rematch.

“He’s talking about finances because it’s a good way to make money,” Wladimir said. “Well, it’s not just about money in sport.”

That’s refreshing. Instead of trying to milk the public into paying for another one-sided mismatch, Wladimir is focuing on looking for newer obstacles that will make less money for him.
