McCloskey performed poorly in that fight and rarely offered up much in the form of offense until the 6th. The fight ended with McCloskey being cut over his left eye from a clash of heads. McCloskey pretty much blew his big chance against Khan, and is hoping to get back in there with him by beating Prescott, a fighter that destroyed Khan three years ago in a 1st round knockout.

“We’ll beat the guy [Prescott] that beat you to get the fight as soon as possible,” McCloskey said in an interview with the BBC. “Technically, he’s [Prescott] one of the best, but he’s a big puncher. I have to be on my game.”

When McCloskey suggested that Khan give him a rematch after their fight last April, Khan responded by telling McCloskey that he’d fight him again if McCloskey would fight and beat all the guys that Khan beat up to this point in his pro career. McCloskey in turn has decided to go one better by taking on and trying to beat Prescott, the only fighter to beat Khan.

It’s easier said than done, however, because Prescott has huge power and contrary to what McCloskey says about Prescott not having good skills, he in fact does have good boxing skills. McCloskey will find the out himself when he gets in the ring with Prescott on September 10th. Prescott has a great jab, and moves really well for a tall 5’11” light welterweight. He’s very tall for the division, and will have a three inch height advantage and considerably more in reach. McCloskey is going to find it difficult trying to land his shots against the taller Prescott.
