Khan: I could fight Prescott in the future

By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KO’s) is looking for an opponent for his next fight after beating the carefully chosen IBF light welterweight champion Zab Judah in his last fight. The fighter that all boxing fans want to see Khan fight is Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s), but Khan has been resistant to fight Prescott again even though the Colombian made easy work of Khan three years ago in a 1st round knockout.

“Prescott may be a fight in the future for me,” Khan said to the dailystar.co.uk.

It sounds like a bluff to me. Yeah, Khan will face Prescott again someday, like maybe never. If Khan were serious about wanting to fight Prescott he would have done so a long time ago instead of facing an old Marco Antonio Barrera, and little known fighters Paul McCloskey and Oisin Fagan. For that matter, Khan wouldn’t faced the light hitting Paulie Malignaggi, Dmitri Salita and Andriy Kotelnik. Let’s face it, Khan wants no part of getting back in the ring with Prescott again because if he did he would have already.

Khan says he’s going to fight only one more time before moving up to the welterweight division, and the choices for Khan’s last fight at light welterweight are in the following order: Erik Morales, Roberto Guerrero, Marcos Maidana, Paul McCloskey and Breidis Prescott. The fighter that Khan will pick is going to be Morales, and that’s pretty much a no-brainer.

Khan will then move up to the welterweight division and take on the slow-handed Kell Brook. Khan’s problems will start when he gets his dream fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Khan will be knocked out in that fight, and unless he goes back to fighting guys like Malignaggi, Fagan and Salita again, Khan will get beat again if he faces a good welterweight like Victor Ortiz and Mike Jones. Those guys are much too strong for Khan and won’t be afraid to walk through his flurries to get to his tender chin.
