Image: Vitali says he won't fight HayeBy Dan Ambrose: If WBA heavyweight champion David Haye wants to fight WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko after Haye’s fight against his brother IBF/WBO heavyweight Wladimir Klitschko this Saturday then Haye will have to forget all about retiring in October, because Vitali says he won’t be fighting him. Haye has said that unless Vitali fights him before October when Haye turns 31, then Haye’s fight with Wladimir will be his last fight of his career. Well, it looks like Haye will be retiring because Wladimir won’t be fighting him.

Speaking with espn.co.uk, Vitali said “I told [Adam] Booth, Haye’s manager, after my brother beats David, I have nothing to do. Some people are talking and saying I’ll be the next one to fight him but after Wladimir is finished, I have nothing to do with David Haye…There is no interest in it. There is no point.”

It’s too bad because that would be a great fight, especially if Haye beats Wladimir. You would have to think that Vitali would have a huge amount of pressure to fight cancel his fight with Tomasz Adamek in September to fight the much bigger revenge fight against Haye. Vitali would be crazy to bypass the bigger fight against Haye when the whole world would be demanding it. If this is Vitali’s only chance to avenge his brother’s possible knockout loss to Haye, Vitali might be kicking himself later for not taking the opportunity. He missed the chance to avenge his loss to Lennox Lewis when Lewis retired. It would be disappointing if Vitali missed this chance too.
