Image: Khan says he'll fight Prescott again - but it won't happen anytime soonBy William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan was totally blown out by Breidis Prescott three years ago in a 1st round knockout in 2008. Khan says he’s a much better fighter since then and would beat Prescott in a rematch, but that’s hard for boxing fans to buy when Khan won’t even attempt to avenge the defeat. Prescott has gotten better and is looking much more dangerous than he was when he staggered Khan with a jab and then flattened him with a hook to the head.

In the latest boxing news, Khan is now saying he’ll eventually fight Prescott, but only after Khan faces several more opponents. Khan is obviously referring to Zab Judah, Timothy Bradley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. I see each one of those fights as being a loss for Khan, and that right there will remove any chances of Khan ever facing Prescott again.

Khan’s promoters won’t want to put him back in with Prescott if Khan gets flattened by Judah, Bradley and/or Mayweather. A loss against any one of these fighters would remove all possibilities of Khan facing Prescott. There is a small chance that if Khan beats all three of those fighters that he could turn his attention to Prescott, but do you really think that would happen? If Khan runs the table and beats Judah, Bradley and Mayweather there is no chance of Khan turning backwards and facing Prescott.

Khan would probably go after Victor Ortiz or someone like Miguel Cotto. There really isn’t anyone in the welterweight division besides Mayweather, Ortiz and Manny Pacquiao. Khan won’t fight Pacquiao, and that leaves guys like Cotto or maybe soon to be 40-year-old Shane Mosley. I’d like to think that Khan wouldn’t waste his time fighting Mosley, especially after how bad Mosley looked in losing to Pacquiao recently. But I can see it happening. Prescott will be an afterthought no matter who beats. Prescott can win a title at welterweight and I don’t see Khan facing him.
