Image: Haye: I've never been in better conditionBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) says he’s in the peak condition of his life for his bout against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on July 2nd.

“Everything in the build up has felt so right,” Haye said in an article at the telegraph.co.uk. “Often there are bumps in the road on the way through a training camp but physically I’ve never been in better condition, and mentally I’m more prepared than ever before.”

That’s a relief that Haye is talking about how good he feels, because at least we can exclude those areas as potential excuses for him if he ends up getting knocked out or dominated by Wladimir. What we don’t want is Haye to have excuses for a loss and not own up to the fact that he simply wasn’t good enough to beat Wladimir. Making excuses is pretty lame, and it’s hard to respect a fighter when they start letting them fly at the drop of a hat after they’ve been totally schooled.

I don’t doubt that Haye is in the best shape of his life. Fear is a good tool to help one get in good condition. But that won’t help Haye much. This isn’t a body building competition, it’s a fight. And if it was a bodybuilding competition Haye would still lose. Wladimir’s better than Haye no matter what the British does. He can gain weight, he can lose weight, he can have the best sparring partners or he can pray, it won’t matter. Wladimir is simply the bigger and superior fighter of the two. We’ll see that on July 2nd when Haye starts running after he gets tagged a few times. It’s going to be like watching a big cat chase down a scared mouse. Wladimir is going to have to chase Haye around before putting him out of his misery.
