By Sean McDaniel With big John McDermott pulling out of his fight this Saturday night against unbeaten heavyweight prospect David Price (10-0, 8 KO’s), Price now faces what may be an even tougher test against the powerful but untested 6’6″ Tom Dallas (15-0, 11 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round BBBofC British heavyweight title eliminator bout at the Olympia, Liverpool, Merseyside, UK.
Although the 26-year-old Dallas lacks the experience that McDermott would have brought into the fight, Dallas may be in fact more dangerous for the 6’8″ Price because of his power and his sometimes out of control style of fighting. Dallas may not have the best boxing skills but he does have size, power and a brawling style that could cause Price some problems in this fight.
Price, 27, is the bigger puncher and has the faster hands but in the chin department, Price is the much more vulnerable fighter of the two. Price has had things pretty easy since he turned pro in 2009, as he’s been matched against exclusively soft opposition. Dallas is a big step up from the weak B and C level guys that have been fed to Price as of late. The question is whether Price’s chin can handle the big shots that Dallas will be throwing his way on Saturday night.
I have no doubts that Dallas will be able to take Price’s big power shots for at least six rounds, possibly more. But with Dallas unloading on Price with his best shots for the first half of the fight, I wonder whether Price’s weak chin will be able to take that kind of nonstop bombardment without Price hitting the canvas and getting taken out. My prediction is Price early, say the 4th round. However, if the fight makes it past the 7th, I see Dallas stopping Price around the 8th round.
