Prediction: Pacquiao to taste defeat tonight

By Dave Lahr: The Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley bout is only moments away but I thought I would chime in on my last minute analysis. After painstaking research into this fight with many hours spent looking over video of both fighters, I’ve come to the conclusion that Pacquiao is going to get beaten badly and brought back down to earth by the 39-year-old Mosley.

Oh, don’t get me wrong. Pacquiao will have his moments in the fight early on, but once Mosley turns it up a notch and has Pacquiao bleeding from cuts around his eyes, the fight will turn around with Mosley pummeling the smaller Pacquiao and exposing him once again a frontrunner fighter that goes to pieces when things get brutal. I’m hoping Pacquiao will at least fight hard into the later rounds because I want this fight to be a competitive one but I’m not sure that will happen. Mosley is a completely different fighter from the soft touches that Pacquiao has been fed lately and I think Pacquiao has become spoiled. He’ll get beat tonight and learn a good lesson that it doesn’t pay to dine on soft pablum.

In his recent fights, Pacquiao has done well against guys that stood in front of him fighting his type of fight. He hasn’t had to face any movers or boxers. The guys that Pacquiao has fought have been stationary type guys that allow Pacquiao to compensate for his limited reach by standing there for him. At it’s worse, Pacquiao fought fellow top Rank stablemate Joshua Clottey, who just covered up for 12 rounds like a good sparring partner. Mosley is really the first guy that Pacquiao has fought that can actually move and box instead of just standing there and letting Pacquiao bang away.
