The interim title seems like some kind of phony made up title for the WBA to make a little extra cash.

But never the less, Maidana obviously won’t turn it down if he beats Morales on Saturday night. This is an important fight for both of these guys because the winner will remain in the hunt for a good paying bout against one of the champions.

For Maidana, he no longer has a chance to fight WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan, because he was beaten by him last December. Maidana will have to settle for getting in line and hopefully getting a bout against IBF light welterweight champion Zab Judah or possibly WBC/WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley if he beats Khan this summer. But first, Maidana must beat Morales to move on in the direction of bigger fighters and bigger money.

Morales is the perfect opponent for Maidana’s style of fighting. Morales likes to come straight forward in his fights and likes to mix it up. Morales has been hinting recently that he plans on using movement to beat Maidana, but that’s not likely to happen.

Once Maidana hits Morales hard, we’ll likely see Morales revert back to his warrior style of fighting with him slugging it out. This is going to be like putting a ball on tee for Maidana to swing at, because Morales is going to be right there for Maidana to tee off on with his big clubbing shots. If you stand in front of Maidana all night long bad things happen. Morales will be lucky if his aging body will carry him into the second part of the fight.
