By William Mackay: David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) is promising a knockout in his July 2nd mega fight against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) at the Imtech stadium in Hamburg, Germany. Haye. Yesterday, it was finally learned where and when the Klitschko-Haye unification bout will take place. Haye sees himself destroying Wladimir with ease in a wipeout knockout victory.

Speaking with thesun.co.uk, Haye said “I’ve said from day one that I am Wladimir’s toughest opponent to date. Wladimir has a history of being knocked out by fast punchers and I punch faster than every other heavyweight in the world. I’ve got no doubts Wladimir will freeze like an iceberg when I hit him on the chin in Hamburg.”

Wladimir’s knockout losses to Ross Puritty, Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster were a case of Wladimir over-looking his opponents. Only one of them was fast, the 6’4” southpaw Sanders. Haye, 6’2”, is shorter than Sanders and fights from an orthodox fighting stance. There won’t be the confusion for Wladimir against Haye that there was in the Sander’s fight when Wladimir seemed to be not ready for the left hands he was getting hit with.

Haye will have to get in close to land his big power shots and it’s going to come at a price for Haye each time he comes wading in. He’s going to get hit a lot with jabs and left hooks while coming forward. Haye’s best chance of winning will be when Wlaidimir attempts to tie Haye up in a clinch. In his past fights, Haye has shown the tendency to keep punching when his opponents go to tie him up. Haye sometimes throws rabbit punches that the referee is too slow to stop. If you take away Haye’s rabbit punches in the clinch, he’s pretty much a limited fighter. Haye does well against older guys at heavyweight, but I see him getting knocked out by younger heavyweights with talent. Wladimir will be far too good for Haye to beat unless he can land a rabbit shot that the referee ignores or does nothing about.
