Do Froch’s fans believe he can win the Super Six tournament?

By Scott Gilfoid: In looking at some of the comments that WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s fans are making recently about his chances to win the Super Six tournament it appears that many of them are resigned to him losing in the tournament to WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward.

You can kind of get a good idea why Froch’s fans think he’s going to lose by looking at their comments, where they say Froch could get the victory if he lands a big punch or if Ward walks into a big shot. In other words, it appears that many of Froch’s loving fans are only giving him a punchers’ chance of beating Ward. My, my that’s not good, is it? Don’t they think Froch can beat Ward in a full 12 round fight by proving he’s the better fighter? But it sounds like to me that Froch’s fans are just hoping he gets lucky and lands one big shot to the chin. That’s a pretty desperate way of looking at a big fight if you ask me.

Anyway, none of this probably matters because I don’t see Froch getting by his semifinals opponent Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KO’s) on June 4th at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. By now, Johnson and his team will have seen what I’ve already observed a long time ago about Froch that he doesn’t fight well on the inside and loses much of his power when he’s forced to fight in close. Johnson is a superb inside fighter and will take the fight to Froch and force him to battle in the trenches. Froch, like a lot of stubborn fighters, will willingly battle it out toe-to-toe, even when it would be better off for him to try and box. Johnson is going to make Froch fight his fight by getting in close and basically mugging Froch on June 4th.
