By Jason Kim: Junior middleweight contender Pawel Wolak (29-1, 19 KO’s) is targeting some big names after defeating former WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-2, 8 KO’s) last Saturday night with a 6th round retirement. Wolak now is looking to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Cornelius Bundradge or Miguel Cotto next.

However, the chances are pretty slim of Wolak getting either Chavez Jr. or Cotto. Chavez Jr. likely won’t be matched against someone as dangerous s Wolak, especially with the way he was able to wear down Foreman with his pressure. Chavez Jr. is a fighter that is a money maker, and as long as hes matched carefully, he’ll continue to do so.

Once he gets beaten, however, his marketability will likely take a huge hit. Wolak is probably too dangerous for Chavez Jr. right now. Besides, Chavez Jr. has a fight scheduled on June 4th against WBC middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik. Wolak would have a great chance of ruining those plans if Chavez Jr’s people were to allow him to fight the Polish fighter. As for Cotto, he has a fight coming up with Antonio Margarito in July, and Wolak isn’t in the plans.

Wolak, 5’8”, was all over Foreman last Saturday night, staying on top of him and not allowing Foreman any room to escape. In the past, Foreman did well against fighter that he could move in and move out against to get off quick flurries and then escape. Wolak didn’t allow Foreman to do that, and kept pressuring him and throwing lots of shots all night long. Eventually, Foreman wore down under the pressure and decided he’d had enough after the 6th round ended.
