Image: Vitali: After I hit Solis, he did not appear to want to keep fightingBy Eric Thomas: Despite challenger Odlanier Solis (17-1, 12 KO’s) proving that he injured his right knee after being hit by WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s) last Saturday night, Vitali is under the impression that the right hand he hit Solis with just before the injury is the reason why Solis stopped fighting, not because of the injury itself.

Vitali said “I’m disappointed because that should have been the first of 12 rounds. But after I hit him, he did not seem to want to keep fighting.”

Hopefully, Vitali has seen the replay of the fight a few times to see that Solis stopped fighting when his right knee gave out from under him while he was pulling back after having attempted to land a right hand. It’s a natural thing for a fighter to do when they’ve thrown a punch that has drawn them near their opponent. They often pull back to the outside, which is what Solis was doing when his knee gave out on him. It didn’t appear to be from the effects of the right hand that Vitali hit him with because it wasn’t a big shot. It was more like a glancing blow than anything.

The German crowd was angry and fit to be tied, booing constantly and making their feelings known. For EPIX, the cable company that decided to take a chance by showing the fight, they have to be badly disappointed by the results of the fight because of it’s sudden ending. It was supposed to be a fight that would potentially please fans and bring in new costumers. Instead, it left pretty much no one happy.
