Haye vs. Klitschko: Finally a fight for the fans

By Dallan o’ Donnell: After heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s decision to abandon a fight with unbeaten Dereck Chisora in favour of a fight with WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (Although Klitschko claims it was because of injury) I couldn’t help but feel as if this was finally a result for boxing fans. It was the fight which should have been made in the first place and it would also have saved Chisora the hassle of TWO canceled fights from the Ukrainian.

I think it was very unprofessional from a very experienced Heavyweight champion and a little disrespectful to Chisora but it was something, inevitably that had to be done to save the heavyweight divisions blushes. Chisora with only 14 fights to his name, is far too inexperienced to take on someone with Klitschko’s record (55-3, 49 KO’S) and ring prowess. But in steps David Haye. After months of talking and switching blame from camp to camp we finally see Haye and Klitschko in the ring.

It is the heavyweight clash everyone wants to see no matter how dull the fight may actually be. The fighter’s names alone are enough to draw a large television audience and sell out an arena either in the UK or in Germany where Klitschko is largely based. The fight is obviously going to split boxing fans across the world with some going for the energy and speed of Haye with others going for the cool calculated hard hitting of Klitschko. But I won’t get my hopes up too much. Not until I see them both across the ring from each other with no chance of either canceling.

Fingers crossed that neither picks up any injuries during training! This fight being made gives us fans the glimmer of hope for a certain Mega bout between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather hopefully both will see the example that both Klitschko and Haye have now set. The Haye- Klitschko fight will take place on either the 25th of June or the 2nd of July with the venue for the fight also up in the air.
