Image: Haye slams Solis after his injury loss to KlitschkoBy William Mackay: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) was disgusted with the physical condition that heavyweight challenger Odlanier Solis (17-1, 12 KO’s) was last Saturday night in his 1st round TKO loss to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s) in Cologne, Germany. Haye, a fighter who prides himself in coming into his fights in the best possible condition, had this to say on his twitter account at looking at how heavy Solis was in the Klitschko fight:

“Now that’s why you shouldn’t have excess body fat. A lean 30-year-year-old healthy athlete shouldn’t have joints/ligaments popping for no reason. He [Solis] beat me 10 years ago when he weighed 46 pounds less. He used to be ripped. Why become obese before a huge fight? Solis knew how to beat Vit, but years of obesity stopped him from being able to execute. He will unfortunately go down as yet another fat bum.”

Solis was fighting well at the time of the injury, but seemed to lose his balance after getting hit with a right hand on the top of his head while bent over while in the process of throwing a punch. Solis immediately backed up and his right leg collapsed from under him. It was clearly not something he could fake, especially when he tried to get up and you could see his right leg bending at an odd angle while trying to support him.

Haye was beaten by Solis while the two were fighting as amateurs. However, that was when Solis weighed a slender 200 lbs. He’s put on a lot fat and muscles since that time and neither of the two seem to have improved his game. In fairness to Solis, he did take off a lot of weight for this fight. He came into his last fight in December weighing 260. Solis was much thinner and was fighting well until the injury occurred.

Haye is scheduled to fight IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in June or July. There is an outside possibility that Haye could end up fighting Vitali if Wladimir suffers an injury of one kind or another. It probably doesn’t matter who Haye fights between the brothers. He basically only has a puncher’s chance because he’s even smaller than Solis but doesn’t look nearly as skilled as the Cuban fighter. Solis has a lot more facets to his game compared to Haye.
