Danny Williams vs. Laszlo Toth on 4/8

By Sean McDaniel: Former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Danny Williams (42-9, 32 KO’s) will continue to plug along with his once promising career when he faces Hungarian Laszlo Toth (9-2, 5 KO’s) in a 10 round bout on April 8th in Hamburg, Germany.

This is the second fight of Williams’ comeback after being destroyed last year in two rounds by Dereck Chisora in May 2010. That was supposedly going to be Williams’ last fight of his career before retiring. However, Williams has now resurfaced in Germany, facing third tier fighters.

Williams destroyed a fighter by the name of Frank Kary Roth (2-22-2, 2 KO’s) in two rounds on March 5th. With a record as dreadful as that it’s a surprise that Roth even lasted a round with Williams. Fighting with a Latvian boxing license, it looks as if Williams will be facing weak opposition for some time to come.

It’s unclear whether Williams will build up a record on soft opposition in hopes of fighting for a world title or if the endgame is merely a fight for one of the Euro titles. It’s hard to see Williams finding any success unless the whole idea is to keep him fighting third tier opposition.

If that’s what they want, Williams will certainly succeed. But once they put him up against a decent B level fighter, he may struggle. Williams has been beaten by John McDermott, Carl Baker and Chisora in the past three years, all decent B level fighters. Williams should get by Toth without too many problems on 4/8.
