Mosley vs. Pacquiao: Shane needs to go the breadbasket – That’s where Manny is weak

By Dave Lahr: Shane Mosley needs to not waste time throwing punches to the head of Manny Pacquiao when they fight on May 7th. That’s a complete waste of time. When you’re throwing punches at Pacquiao’s head, you might as well be hitting a hard block of concrete. It’s not how you beat Pacquiao. The way to beat Pacquiao is to aim your shots downstairs and go for the break basket all night long.

I’d suggest that Mosley forget all he’s learned about throwing punches to the head for this fight and study a lot of videos of light welterweight Lucas Matthysse, a fighter who is excellent at throwing to the body. Matthysse is very disciplined in his approach to throwing to the body. When he goes to the body, he really goes to the body.

Matthysse basically devotes entire fights to throwing almost everything to the body and it really pays off with his ability to weaken his opponents. This is what Mosley needs to do against Pacquiao. You can’t beat him by hitting him in that head of his. It just has no affect. Mosley needs to go to Pacquiao’s weak midsection and reduce him to a bowl of jelly and get him backing up. Once Pacquiao’s feeling the body shots, his legs will go, his power will go and he’ll be ready to be taken out with a nice liver shot. If I’m Mosley, I won’t throw one head shot the entire fight. It’s all body punches. We’ve already seen in the past that Pacquiao can’t take it to the body when he’s hit hard.
