By Jim Dower: Former heavyweight title challenger Eddie Chambers (35-2, 18 KO’s) faces Derric Rossy (25-2, 14 KO’s) tonight in an IBF heavyweight title eliminator at the Bally’s Atlantic City, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The winner of the Chambers-Rossy fight will then become the mandatory challenger for the IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s).

Strangely enough, Chambers’ last fight was against Klitschko last year in March, a fight in which Chambers was dominated for 11 rounds and then knocked cold in the 12th by a hard left hook from Wladimir. It was a nasty knockout and it’s no surprising that Chambers has decided to stay out of the ring this long. What is surprising is that he’ll potentially be able to get another fight against Klitschko so quickly if he can beat the #11 ranked IBF contender Rossy tonight.

Chambers should, 28, should win this fight without too many problems because he already defeated Rossy by a 7th round TKO four years ago in February 2007. Rossy has improved some since that time, winning his last seven fights after being stopped in the 5th round by Alexander Dimitrenko in May 2008. However, Rossy has been softly matched against B level fighters, so the wins are hardly as impressive as they might otherwise seem to be.

At only 6’1″ 209 lbs in his last fight against Klitschko, Chambers really doesn’t have the size to compete with Wladimir in a second fight. Chambers would be better off moving down in weight to the cruiserweight division. However, there’s no money at that weight and he wouldn’t likely be nearly as successful as he is now against some of the fast and powerful punchers at that weight.
