Adamek: I easily beat Chambers

Image: Adamek: I easily beat ChambersBy Dan Ambrose: Heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (46-2, 28 KO’s) feels he easily beat Eddie Chambers last weekend in their fight at the Prudential Center, in Newark, New Jersey, United States. Adamek won by a controversial 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 116-112, 116-112 and 119-109.

While Adamek felt it was an easy fight, many Americans who saw the fight felt that Chambers did more than enough to get the win. I personally had Adamek winning by a close margin but I don’t think it was an easy win nor did I think Adamek was impressive in the fight.

Adamek told fightnews.com “I did win this fight easily…it was a easy fight because Chambers did nothing to challenge me.”

I think Adamek needs to sit down and watch the fight himself with perhaps a few friends that will give him an honest opinion. Adamek looked terrible throughout the fight, and this was against a rusty, undersized Chambers, who hadn’t fought in 16 months. Chambers was fighting with only right hand, because he injured his left early in the fight. But even with just right hand, Chambers gave Adamek hell all night.

Adamek looked too bulkly from having put on a bunch of useless muscle that did little to improve his game. His power wasn’t impressive, his hand speed poor, and his movement more like a 300 pound overweight heavyweight than a 225 pound fighter.

Adamek, #6 IBF, #13 WBC, may get another title shot against one of the heavyweight champions next year, but I hope he someone improves before he does because he looks like he’s going downhill. He looked a lot better when he first moved up to the heavyweight division in 2009. I don’t know if the beating Adamek took in his 10th round stoppage loss to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko had a negative affect on his game or if it’s age. I think it’s a combination of advancing age, the beating he took against Vitali and the useless weight that Adamek has put recently.
