Why hasn’t Pacquiao faced any slick boxers?

By Dave Lahr: In looking at the typical fighters that has been put in with Manny Pacquiao, I’ve noticed that he’s almost always matched up against come forward types of fighters that often lead were their faces.

Think of Ricky Hatton and Antonio Margarito and it gives you a pretty good idea of the kinds of fighters that Pacquiao is often matched against. What you likely won’t see is Pacquiao put in with someone slick, a fighter that moves, hits and runs and makes Pacquiao miss.

The closest thing that Pacquiao has come to facing one of those types of fighters is Juan Manuel Marquez, who is hardly what I would call a slick fighter. He’s more of a counter puncher rather than someone that makes you miss and runs. It’s hard to imagine that after 16 years as a pro, Pacquiao still hasn’t faced a slick boxer.

That’s a heck of a long time to be fighting without having faced a good hit and run artist in the mode of Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Junior Witter. It doesn’t look like Pacquiao is going to be fighting any slick boxers any time soon. His next opponent is going to be 39-year-old Shane Mosley, who at this ripe age, can barely move around the ring at all without exhausting himself.

After Pacquiao dispatches Mosley, we’re probably going to see Pacquiao face Miguel Cotto again in another nice little mismatch. Cotto can move a little but he’s not what I would ever consider a slick boxer. He’s kind of like Ricky Hatton with a jab and that’s about it.
